Minister Says MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Advised to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the potential security risks associated with Chinese cars, while personnel have been instructed to refrain from discussing classified matters in any vehicles.

Security Guidance for MoD Staff

During a recent interview on a radio station, a defence minister addressed claims that MoD officials have been told not to discuss secret material while travelling in China-made cars.

The minister said that the ministry is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but stressed that safety is a issue in every modern vehicles.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their car, not to have conversations at a classified level in any vehicle, because of the growing threats of surveillance that are present in all vehicle, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for anyone concerned about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all Chinese vehicles, the minister responded: ‘That’s exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Defence Background

The revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could enable China to switch off public transport and bring disruption to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship was reportedly shining laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, described as a “extremely risky” action by defence officials.

This wider security environment highlights the significance of robust protocols and caution in all aspects of official activities, including transport use to communication practices.
