The Reason the DNC is Hiding their 2024 Election Autopsy: A Deep Dive.

The decision from the Democratic National Committee to suppress the release of its internal autopsy report concerning the last presidential race seems stunning however entirely predictable. Resistant to unpleasant candor, the DNC operates closer to a communications shop than an electoral entity focused on cultivating a volunteer base for winning elections.

A Climate That Avoids Dissent

Hesitant to challenge the party establishment's culture of conformity, the committee has stayed under that legacy throughout this past year. Making public the findings would have indicated whether the leadership actually want to foster open debate about the missteps which allowed Donald Trump to win re-election. Instead, the committee is acting under the pretense that there is little to be learned following the tragic debacle from the last cycle.

Our guiding principle: will this lead to victory? If not, it’s a distraction from our fundamental goal," a justification reportedly given to justify concealing the report.

Critical Problems an Analysis Would Have Addressed

Any valuable post-mortem worth its salt would tackle head-on a series of difficult topics. These include:

  • Voter Disenchantment: Losing of millions of voters who supported the party's candidate in 2020 proved pivotal in the narrowly decided recent race.
  • The Insistence to Seek Re-election: The unwavering decision of a party leader to stay in the race, coupled with an extremely delayed step-aside, is seen by some as denying the party's base of a genuine choice.
  • Losing Touch With Core Democratic Voters: While facing economic anxiety, the electoral effort reportedly accommodating powerful financial backers and not managing to challenge the role of big business.
  • The Gaza Effect: An unwillingness to reconsider a stance regarding a ongoing war reportedly led to driving away many voters, particularly with young people, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • Eroding Young Voter Allegiance: Research shows a significant decline in Democratic support among young voters.

A Record Shunning Scrutiny

Choosing secrecy is consistent with a recurring tendency to avoid uncomfortable facts. It recalls a dynamic in which virtually every Democratic officeholder in Washington supported a sitting president's decision for running for re-election right up until a disastrous campaign event led to a change.

At the same time, a significant majority of Democratic voters had been continually telling researchers of their opposition to the incumbent to be the nominee.

Campaign Spending Questions

An honest report might also probe issues regarding where money went, such as the amounts flowed to insider consultants and advertising contractors during an electoral effort that managed to spend an enormous war chest during the general election.

A Underlying Problem

Ultimately, the secrecy of the official autopsy is symptomatic of a deference toward party leaders responsible for a losing electoral effort. The message to rank-and-file members – including countless dedicated activists – appears to be that they do not be trusted to know the lessons party chiefs have learned based on a report compiled from conversations with insiders.

A party incapable to honestly assess its own failings finds it difficult to escape the pattern which was so beneficial to the rival party.
